Terminal Idiocy

Ever heard of Cory Glass? Jeremy Heinzman?

Well, these are latter day heroes from the "draft dodger" era who are trying to reclaim the glory days of when there really was a draft. These men, among others, fled to Canada to avoid going to war in Iraq.

Well, okay. I happen to disagree with your stand on the Iraq war, but I acknowledge that you, as American citizens, have every right to take a stand against a war your country has chosen to fight. But why bother coming to Canada?

Helloooooo!!!!

There is no draft to dodge.

You were not being forced to join the army.

Why in hells bells would any fool VOLUNTARILY join the armed forces if he or she does not want to go to war????? That's what armed forces are for - fer chris sake!!! Maybe you were in the wrong lineup. You must have wanted the one where they were handing out brains.

Well hellooo!!! Geez Louise!!
It's because he thinks the war was started with lies and thus a totally unnecessary and immoral waste of human lives and resources. He is taking a stand.

Geez, canuckguy..

No. 1, he does not need to stay in the armed forces. No forced him in and no one forced him to stay. If he is opposed to the war, let him quit. THERE IS NO DRAFT therefore, there is no need to skip the country. Get it? That was just a silly attempt to make it look like he was taking some heroic stand against a government that gave him no choice. Hence, he's an idiot.

No. 2, when someone joins up and intends to stay, where does it say that he gets to pick and choose which wars he will fight? That's part and parcel of the commitment one makes when joining the armed forces. So was he joining up for the right reasons, or was he joining up for the free meals and other free stuff. You know. Being a freeloader. There are some guys who do join up for that reason but as soon as the going gets tough they wimp out. But even so, there is no need to skip the country, unless he can't stand the heat from patriotic citizens who consider him a toady, in which case, he probably is. Sorry, but no sympathy from me on that one.

Oh, and save the crap about "lies" for someone more immature and easily duped. I have relatives in Iraq who would slap you upside the head for saying that, if they could. I know there's not much hope of convincing a died in the wool leftard, but just in case, why don't you try a little background reading on that and similar issues here, and here, and here, and here,
and here.

"let him quit."
can't quite the army before the contract time is up, otherwise it's desertion.

"to pick and choose which wars he will fight?"
I can't argue with your point on that one.

On the "lies" issue, come on, Dick Cheney and Rummy, they were either liars or grossly incompetent, perhaps both. BTW, Rummy was hilarious with his 'the known unknowns" speech. What an idiot.

I had no problem with Saddamn dangling at the end of a rope, he richly deserved it.

The bone I have to pick is the sheer incompetence of the Bush government and the errors they made. The worse error was allowing themselves be distracted by Iraq rather than finish the job in Afghanistan where the situation has worsened. Between Iraq and Afghanistan, the USA bit off more than ir can chew and are risking a downfall economically.

I must say though that the Ajami article is an interesting take on the situation (but even he said the WMD issue was an error)

I am not a leftist, just an observer who recognizes what a screw up Bush was and is. The right wing loonies think he is one of the best presidents. Good grief, give your head a shake if you believe that drivel.

In the meantime over 1200 young men and women already in Iraq re-enlisted today in a ceremony led by General Petreaus. I guess we know who are the cowards are and who are not.

You know, if you could just learn the difference between the word "error" and the word "lie", you might actually come off like someone with a modicum of intelligence. However, you'd still have to come up with some way of elevating your other leftie speaking notes beyond just rotely memorized memes available for regurgitation on cue. They hardly make a case. I'm betting you know nothing about history of previous wars and how utterly impossible it is to predict the twists and turns they all contain.

This notion that a war can be perfectly planned and executed is pure left wing balderdash and I'm surprised you would be so foolish as to state it outright. You know the old saying, better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open ones mouth and remove all doubt.

I don't need to give my head a shake for the reasons you suggest. My interest in this war arose from my long time association with actual relatives (through marriage) who are Iraqi born and bred going back generations untold. I knew what Saddam Hussein was doing even before he became the president of the country. You were probably still in diapers, if you were even born.

Geez Louise,

Regarding "leftie speaking notes beyond just rotely memorized memes available for regurgitation on cue", the right winger bushbots are pretty good at that sort of nonsense as well.

As for "This notion that a war can be perfectly planned and executed is pure left wing balderdash.." ---I never claimed any war can be perfectly planned, just claiming the Bush NeoCons did a bang up job of utterly mis-managing the Iraqi situation. The Americans quickly won the conventional war but as a result of the Bush Republicans sheer ignorant hard-headed cowboy arrogance, totally missed a chance to truly suceed in Iraq. And so here they are 5 years later, still duking it out.

BTW I was alive and out of my diapers when Saddam was rising up the ranks but he certainly was not on my radar screen until after he became president.
