Why We Fight

This, among so many other reasons, is why we fight. We are three dead soldiers away from 100 dead in Afghanistan. I fully expect there will be moaning and whining in the Canadian MSM and from our current crop of hopefuls in the election who hail from the left. To them, I would just like to point out that on a single day in June, 1944, known to history as D-Day, Canada lost 359 men. Before the war was over 40,000 Canadians were dead. We had well over a million men in uniform on the front. Is it any wonder they are known as the Greatest Generation. To the young Canadians in Afghanistan, God speed. May your sacrifice and valor not be in vain. It's sad that so few of us understand what real sacrifice is.

Great post. May it also be a reminder to the more sheepish amongst us that in one August morning in 1942, on a beach at Dieppe, Canada suffered 3,367 casualties - including 1,946 taken prisoner or wounded and 907 Canadians killed.

Every soldier's death is sad but one has to put things in perspective to be objective.
