A Heartwarming Story

Mideast might upset NDP Unity (My emphasis in bold.)
"In 2006, at the party's convention in Quebec City, a motion that was highly critical of Israel, and which called Hezbollah a "recognized political party," was brought forward and supported by nearly 90% of delegates. Judy Wasylycia-Leis, a Winnipeg MP, was roundly booed when she expressed her concern that Hezbollah is a terrorist organization."
[---]
"Mr. Mulcair is a defender of Israel's right to defend itself. Not only is his wife Jewish but her parents are Holocaust survivors. He and other pro-Israel New Democrats such as Ms. Wasylycia-Leis and Pat Martin led a caucus revolt against Mr. Layton two years ago, after the NDP criticized the Conservative government for boycotting the United Nations Conference on Racism in Geneva, dubbed by its critics "Durban 2." At the time, one MP said the party was in danger of being "hijacked" by extremists."
Ya think??
"It is for this reason that a party activist named Matt Godwin has launched a group called Progressive Caucus for Peace to offer a more balanced, moderate voice on the Middle East."
[---]
"...the new group is attempting to change the climate in a party where it has become fashionable to don Palestinian scarves and spew hatred that would be deemed unacceptable in any other context."
[---]
"But, while Mr. Godwin's initiative has been welcomed by some NDP caucus members, it is likely to bring to the boiling point an internal debate that has been simmering for years. Mr. Layton has been successful in keeping a lid on any public divisions but, if he is absent for any length of time, disagreements between his deputies could spill over and rupture party unity."
It's funny that parties on the far right end of the political spectrum, such as the BNP in Britain, are branded racist, but good ole leftist standbys like the NDP always get a pass. I hope they do rupture and fall right apart. It is high time that Canada saw this kind of politics fade into the sunset. While I would never wish anyone battling cancer ill will, I can separate Mr. Laytoon's cartoonish ideology from his humanity. So, Taliban Jack's fight with cancer notwithstanding, I'll be glad to see his flock of goosestepping minions destroy themselves while he is indisposed and if he doesn't rebound, so much the better.
