Canada Patrols Pirate Infested Waters

...to fight terrorism.
"A warning by the U.S. navy that al-Qaida could be planning attacks on vessels off the coast of Yemen has prompted a Canadian warship to focus its efforts on the volatile area.

The warning, posted on the U.S. Office of Naval Intelligence website, says "information suggests that al-Qaida remains interested in maritime attacks in the Bab-al-Mandeb Strait, Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden along the coast of Yemen.

There is a possibility the attacks could resemble the 2000 suicide bombing of the USS Cole, the warning said.

The blast, which occurred while the American ship was in port in Aden, Yemen, was caused by a small boat laden with nearly 700 pounds of explosives. It killed 17 U.S. sailors and severely damaged the ship."
Good on ya, guys.

My nephew was on the same mission in the same area on a US destroyer a few years ago. A ship variously called a fishing boat and a merchant vessel deliberately rammed the destroyer. The destroyer skipper had real time orders not to engage and hold fire.

The official story was the two shipps collided during a boarding/inspection operation. The ramming vessel could have been packed with explosives, but fortunately it wasn't.

(Go ahead - delete this one! I dare ya!!) :)

Too late. He got through.

Stay tuned for a lengthy report on the battle for free speech in Canada led by Ann Coulter. I probably won't post it until tomorrow, cause I haven't even started and right now I don't know how to describe how I'm feeling. Somewhere between fighting mad or depressed and ready to give up.

I might manage to put a bit up tonight. To make a long story short, there's news that Coulter's talk at the University of Ottawa was cancelled due to a riot of sorts by rent-a-rioters.
