Canada's Silliest Boy Blogger...

...has his knickers in a knot about this news and this.

An long overdue update of Canada's aging military vessels, whether aircraft or navy, while welcomed, should also be an embarrassment. Thank God our current government understands the implications of the Liberal era indifference to our national interests. Not only does Canada have domestic needs as far as military equipment goes, but we also have contractual obligations via NATO to come to the defense of our allies, not to mention moral responsibilities. The time has long passed when we should be sending our men and women into harms way armed only with pitchforks and peace signs. It's high time we pulled our weight. Peacekeeping has its place. (Thank you, Lester Pearson.) But that place is where there actually is a peace to keep.

A nation of wimps gets trampled upon in the real world. Bring back the days when our country knew how to fight wars. Canada used to have aircraft carriers. The last was decommissioned nearly forty years ago.

And thank God for this: Canadian soldier found not guilt in battlefield death

Hey, you've a maple leaf on the flag. That's pretty scary. :)

Way back in the stone age, when I was in grade school, we had a picture of the Queen on the wall above the teacher's desk and the hoisted on the flagpole every morning was the Union Jack. The Maple Leaf flag was chosen somewhere about 1965 or so. There were many candidates but this one won out. Not everyone was happy, but c'est la vie. I guess it was to signify that we were no longer a British colony. We did that peacefully, I'll have you know!

AND---it was Lester Pearson that orchestrated the flag thing, too. You might be amazed at the number of places that have both the Maple Leaf flag and the Stars and Stripes flying side by side. We try to be good neighbours (not neighbors) despite our lefties' best efforts.

There were alot of suggested flag designs. Many pretty darned silly, some were very nice, and I was interested to see so many with the maple leaf. The leaf motif goes back to the 1700s, so it's part of the Canadian psyche.

There was a design that was indentical to the current flag, but the leaf was gold. Another flag was with the red leaf, but had more serrations. The gold leaf didn't work for me. Could have been worse, could have been maple syrup. The current flag with fewer serrations was chosen, surprisingly, was chosen after wind tunnel tests showed the leaf being less blurry.

A sober choice, perhaps a rare event for Canadians. :)

Are you a displaced Canuck? You must be. How else would you know about the great flag debate. My mother, who was the child of British immigrants, was very put out by the fact that the British flag was retired.

BTW, some of those bottles of Maple Syrup probably had something with a little more kick in it than syrup. Personally, I think Newfoundland Screech should be our nationally recognized bottled liquid. Either that, or Canadian Club.

You Yanks stole Molsons Canadian from us. Ripped the heart right out of our Canadian identity.

Then why does your favourite government continue that policy? Wasting $666/taxpayer on the F-35 is a sure-fire way to starve the military of needed equipment on the ground and at sea. As you mentioned, there's not even a carrier to make these planes useful in combat overseas, yet we strain taxpayers to the breaking point on the wrong weapon at the wrong time. You don't buy last century's war technology if you want to win wars, you do it to make money for bad people.

Here's some education you need.
