I suppose they'd be in favor, as a "human rights" principle, for Orphan's Benefits to be paid to murderers in prison for murdering their parents?!

"Critics say it's bad policy for the government to hastily draft legislation based on the most extreme example of an offender, such as Olson, and that stripping imprisoned seniors of financial security will make it harder for them to rejoin society if they are eventually released." And who would these unnamed critics be? Journalist Janice and her imagination? Or Journalist Janice and The Usual Suspect hard-lefty type fellow journalists in the Sun's newsroom?

BTW, these imprisoned felons do have financial security. As long as they're in prison, "We the People" on whom they preyed will provide them with a guaranteed room with a cot, 3 squares a day, medical care, clothing and even, thanks to some brain-dead Canadian jurists' determination that cable TV is a "human right", cable TV.

Two sentences further on, she states "Prisoners, upon release, will be eligible to apply for benefits." That blows her argument right out from the get-go. So, when the revolving door shows them to the exit, they can go apply for their old age pension and the usual gamut of welfare services, all courtesy of the Canadian taxpayers.

Of course, if there's a delay in getting going the cash flow of pensions and welfare for Olson or some other dirtbag released felon, no doubt Journalist Janice would be happy to put him up for a month or two at her place, right?

I would be a whole lot cheaper and a whole lot less worrisome just to bring back the death penalty for cases like Clifford Olson, serial murderer of children. Why does he deserve even a warm bed and three square meals a day?
