I'm Sorry,

...but I do not intend to get up to watch the royal wedding at 4:00 am. I'll have to wait for the reruns.

I'll wait for the divorce to watch TV coverage. Let's see, it was about 15 yrs. from Chuck & Di's wedding till PM John Major was announcing -with TV coverage- their upcoming divorce in Parliament. Given the ever-increasing pace of things, I'll predict a decade of ups & downs marriage, at most.

I don't say this with any schadenfreude. However, I do note that it was only about 6 months ago that Kate caught Wills cheating on her with some London bimbo. Made all the non-establishment newspapers at the time. It also came out that palace advisers told her that Wills is a royal prince, they're "entitled" to such behavior, get used to it.

I'd advise Kate: Wills isn't going to be any more strong a man with any better character after saying "I do" than before. Think long and hard before marrying an indulged weakling from a family with a history of indulged male weaklings. You're marrying into all that wealth and eventually becoming Queen may very well be a proverbial Faustian bargain.

LOL!! I was thinking of adding the phrase "Or the divorce." at the end, but no.

Personally, I think the only royal worth his salt at the moment is Harry, but, alas, he's just the spare.

Good thing they are largely irrelevant, other than as symbols of a long history (which is the only reason I pay any attention) and for the tourist, publishing and trinket industries.

I must say, I was impressed with Prince Harry's ardent desire to serve in combat, first in Iraq, then in Af-stan, after his Iraq posting was canceled.

From what I read of what the men who served with (infantry lieutenant) Prince Harry in his 6 months in Af-stan had to say, he's a gutsy, stand up guy. He was apparently bitterly disappointed to be withdrawn from Af-stan on orders of the Army Chief of Staff when some (typically irresponsible) reporter broke the Army-MSM confidentiality agreement and blabbed out about Harry's assignment, location and unit. Harry thereby became a "bullet magnet", as did his men.

It was probably the right decision, but for a courageous, patriotic young officer who wanted to be in the thick of action, not to be a typical princeling in a pretty uniform doing nothing meaningful while a war is going on, it must have hurt.

(From what I've also read, when off-duty, Prince Harry really likes to party too-booze, females and dancing. But what the hell, he's a young soldier and that's what young soldiers do. Back in my service days in the Vietnam era, I was even known to hoist a few glasses. :-)

I really don't know how much longer the British Royal family will survive. They really are not much more than tourist attractions and historical symbols. Their children are not used to cement alliances anymore, and besides, there are so few places with royal houses to cement alliances with.

Consequently, the young royal brits have been reduced to marrying supposedly for love and, for the sake of loyalty as much as for the lack of suitable mates in other countries, to a British commoner rather than some royal son/daughter from half way round the world. Queen Liz was the last one to marry into a foreign royal lineage.
