Hoop and Holler!

I lived in Brandon, Manitoba, years and years ago, a small prairie city through which flows the now swollen Assiniboine River.  What a lot of water!! As I mentioned in a previous entry, the river I grew up beside, the Qu'Appelle, drains into the Assiniboine, so I guess all that water in the picture in this entry is making its way to Lake Winnipeg, causing some havoc along the way.

It appears the Province of Manitoba will have to deliberately flood some areas where there are homes and businesses in order to save still others. Of course, there are whiners talking about suing the government for what is essentially an act of God. What a bunch of jerks!

Anyway, I did not know there was a place in Manitoba called Hoop and Holler. I like.  That's where the powers that be are planning to cut a hole in the dike to facilitate a diversion of the deluge.

I was out of town today. Took a quick trip into Saskatoon. On the way back there was a big caravan of military vehicles heading in a south-east direction along the Yellowhead Highway, which joins the #1 just west of Portage la Prairie, not far from all this water.  I suspect they were from Edmonton, as it's been reported on the news that a detachment from Edmonton is on its way to Manitoba to help with the flood control and evacuation.  Godspeed, fellas and gals.

Hoop and holler while you're filling those sandbags and don't take any guff from idiots who would like to turn a massive natural disaster into an opportunity to sue somebody, rather than appreciate what's being done for them.
