Harper names defeated Tories to the Senate

We all know senate appointees have always been cronies of the party which appoints them, but how many actually have had actual legislative experience? Personally, I'm looking forward to a senate that actually isn't composed of dead wood.

Besides that, Harper is a brilliant tactician. Do these particular appointments not play well into the eventual goal of reforming the Senate? Let's see whether the opposition parties now rally round the Senate reform agenda or if they oppose it. If history has anything to teach us, the answer to that is they will exercise their traditional hypocrisy. After all, it is only if the Liberal Party can stack the Senate with their cronies that it works for Canada, right?
