Tears In My Eyes

A few weeks back, my daughter, who is getting hitched this summer, asked a bunch of us if we had any favourite songs from "our era", which would be the stone age, that we'd like to hear played at the wedding. I couldn't think of any at the time, but I just remembered this one and sent her an email. Now I'm crying and emptying the Kleenex box: Forgive me for being a sop, but I think it's fitting (the tears, that is).

When one thinks a bit more about the singer, it tends to dry out the tears fairly quickly ;-)

Regardless, congratulations. Marrying one's kid off is always a good thing ;-)

You know, I remember Belafonte causing a bit of a kerfuffle way back when, but I don't even remember what it was about. I liked his music then and still do.

This kid, who is getting married off, has been shacked up for about five years and already has two kids. So yes, it's a good thing they are finally making it legal. I tend to be a bit old fashioned that way.

Besides, every mother deserves a moment when she can cry as her baby gets formally hitched.

And besides, it's the sentiments in the song, not the singer, that brings forth the tears, although many others have covered the same song, but none reach the same place as Belafonte's version

Here's another Golden Oldie from that era.

Blogger just dumped a lengthy comment I wrote about the Philadelphia pop music and jazz scene in the 50's, 60's. I wish they'd get their sh*t together! :-(
