Whew!!

Glad he doesn't live in my house:

Newfoundland man killed roommate in Edmonton over kitchen mess

"...the jury arrived at a guilty verdict on the lesser offence after 10 hours of deliberation."
How much do you wanna bet some of those jurists had messy kitchens, too.

If being a messy room-mate is grounds for Justifiable Homicide in Canada, I'd better not move there! ;-)

I can think of a few places where you'd fit right in.

I believe those would be "Jurors", not "jurists". That said, this whole business puts the expression "officer's mess" into a whole new light, as in, a mess as a result of which officers are called...

The military meaning of "mess", from The Free Dictionary:

"(Military) (intr; often foll by with or together) Military to group together, esp for eating
[from Old French mes dish of food, from Late Latin missus course (at table), from Latin mittere to send forth, set out]"

So, we Anglophones borrowed it from the French, who picked it up from the rubble of the Roman Empire.
