Luv It!!!!

Hope he wins, just to shove it in the noses of our resident leftards.
"August 29, 2014, TORONTO — With recent developments across the globe posing new and difficult challenges, only one leader, Prime Minister Stephen Harper, has maintained the moral clarity needed to face them, says B’nai Brith Canada.

“Moral clarity has been lost across much of the world, with terror, hatred and antisemitism filling the void,” said Frank Dimant, CEO, B’nai Brith Canada. “Throughout, there has been one leader which has demonstrated international leadership and a clear understanding of the differences between those who would seek to do evil, and their victims. More than any other individual, he has consistently spoken out with resolve regarding the safety of people under threat — such as opposing Russian aggression and annexation of Ukrainian territory — and has worked to ensure that other world leaders truly understand threat of Islamic terrorism facing us today.

“In accordance with the rules of the Nobel Foundation it gives me great pleasure to nominate in my capacity as Professor of Modern Israel Studies at Canada Christian College, Prime Minister Stephen Harper for the Nobel Peace Prize in honour of the outstanding moral leadership he has demonstrated.”"
He certainly deserves it. Mind you, given the recent history of the Nobel committee's decisions I'm not holding my breath.

More Good News

Boycott Divest Sanction not stopping collaboration between Israeli and Canadian universities, ambassador says
"As protests against Israel have grown in the wake of ongoing conflict in Gaza, Rafael Barak, the Israeli ambassador to Canada, said he is pleased by the way local authorities have handled the sometimes violent escalation of hostilities between protest groups.

Meanwhile, BDS movements — passed by several student groups in recent years, including at three universities in Toronto — seem to be having little impact, he said.

“There is almost no Canadian or Israeli university that doesn’t have any co-operation at all,” Mr. Barak said after a speech delivered at the University of Calgary’s School of Public Policy on Wednesday."
[---]
"Only a small percentage of university student groups have voted in favour of sanctions — and these motions tend to pass with the encouragement of a small but vocal group of activists. They have been condemned by some as being outright anti-Semitic for their focus on human rights abuses in Israel while ignoring myriad problems in other countries in the region."
This must have certain academics' knickers in a knot.

Tom Mulcair vows aboriginal women inquiry within 100 days if NDP elected

Politicians at the trough wanting to be re-elected.

He has CBC in side, and the Native Women's Association of Canada.
"What would we learn that we don't already know?

"We need to see where we dropped the ball with these cases up until now," says Harvard.

In order to do that, as many as possible of the more than 1,000 documented cases of murdered and missing aboriginal women from the last 30 years should be explored, said Dawn Harvard, vice-president for the NWAC.

"In an ideal world I would say we should talk to all of the families, we should look at all of those women, because every one of those women was important and it was a tragic loss," she said. Families of the missing, police, child welfare authorities and others could all be called as potential witnesses, she said. Topics like sexism, racism and poverty would all be relevant to the discussion."
(Emphasis added.)
[---]
"She hopes an inquiry would identify instances in which indigenous women were treated differently by the authorities."
[---]
""It's that kind of thing that needs to come out and it's that kind of thing that will not come out if we don't have that legal clout to gain access to files, to essentially force people to come forward if they are subpoenaed and testify and discuss what happened in a number of these cases where it was obvious that our women were being treated differently.""
Nothing but a bitch fest for the left and the Indian Industry.

Good-bye France...

Islamic State: One in Six French People Say They Support Isis Caliphate
"Almost a sixth of the French population (16%) have a favourable disposition towards the terror group Isis (now known as the Islamic State), according to a new poll.

The survey, conducted by ICM Research, asked people across the western European countries of Germany, UK and France whether their view of IS was favourable or unfavourable.

The participants were asked: "From what you know, please, tell me if you have a very favourable, somewhat favourable, somewhat unfavourable or very unfavourable opinion of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant otherwise known as Isis?"

A breakdown of the age groups participating in the poll revealed that the younger the respondent, the more likely they were to have a favourable view of IS.

Twenty percent of French people between the ages of 35 and 44 had a favourable opinion of IS while 22% of 25-34 year-olds asked were also favourable to the group.

The highest opinion of the group came in the youngest age group, the 18-24 year-olds.

France, a country with a population of 66 million, has a Muslim community of 4.7 million (as of 2010) and a large number of this community have emigrated from North Africa."

The Lamestream Media And The Arab-Israeli Conflict

"The volume of press coverage that results, even when little is going on, gives this conflict a prominence compared to which its actual human toll is absurdly small. In all of 2013, for example, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict claimed 42 lives—that is, roughly the monthly homicide rate in the city of Chicago. Jerusalem, internationally renowned as a city of conflict, had slightly fewer violent deaths per capita last year than Portland, Ore., one of America’s safer cities. In contrast, in three years the Syrian conflict has claimed an estimated 190,000 lives, or about 70,000 more than the number of people who have ever died in the Arab-Israeli conflict since it began a century ago.

News organizations have nonetheless decided that this conflict is more important than, for example, the more than 1,600 women murdered in Pakistan last year (271 after being raped and 193 of them burned alive), the ongoing erasure of Tibet by the Chinese Communist Party, the carnage in Congo (more than 5 million dead as of 2012) or the Central African Republic, and the drug wars in Mexico (death toll between 2006 and 2012: 60,000), let alone conflicts no one has ever heard of in obscure corners of India or Thailand. They believe Israel to be the most important story on earth, or very close.

A reporter working in the international press corps here understands quickly that what is important in the Israel-Palestinian story is Israel. If you follow mainstream coverage, you will find nearly no real analysis of Palestinian society or ideologies, profiles of armed Palestinian groups, or investigation of Palestinian government. Palestinians are not taken seriously as agents of their own fate. The West has decided that Palestinians should want a state alongside Israel, so that opinion is attributed to them as fact, though anyone who has spent time with actual Palestinians understands that things are (understandably, in my opinion) more complicated. Who they are and what they want is not important: The story mandates that they exist as passive victims of the party that matters.

Corruption, for example, is a pressing concern for many Palestinians under the rule of the Palestinian Authority, but when I and another reporter once suggested an article on the subject, we were informed by the bureau chief that Palestinian corruption was “not the story.” (Israeli corruption was, and we covered it at length.)"

The Origin Of "Political Correctness"

Back To The Middle East

Unrelated To The Previous...

...post. (Just to make sure you know, any resemblance to Angry Tom is purely coincidental)

When did Neanderthals become extinct?
"By analyzing ancient remains across Europe, a team led by investigators have pinpointed the timing the Neanderthals’ extinction to between 39,000 and 41,000 years ago.

Neanderthals overlapped with early modern humans and, based on genetic evidence, interbred with them. However, the extent of the overlap of the two in terms of time and geography is still not fully known. New research has highlighted a shorter time frame for the potential interaction of humans with Neanderthals than other studies have shown. Many scientists think that there was a coexistence of Neanderthals and early modern humans in Europe between about 30,000 to 40,000 years, possibly extending to even more recently. The new research appears to contradict this."
Neanderthals: BFFs and frenemies of modern humans
"Far from wiping out Neanderthals overnight, modern humans co-existed with their shorter and stockier cousins for thousands of years, giving plenty of time for the two groups to share ideas – and even squeeze in a bit of time for sex.

The most accurate timeline yet for the demise of our closest relatives, published in the journal Nature on Aug 20, shows that Neanderthals overlapped with present-day humans in Europe for between 2,600 and 5,400 years before disappearing about 40,000 years ago."
Neanderthals, modern humans co-existed for 5,000 years
"Previous studies suggest that modern humans and Neanderthals co-existed for as less as 500 years. However, taking help from the new radiocarbon dating techniques, a group of international researchers suggest that Neanderthals died around 40,000 years ago but lived and mixed with modern humans for over 5,000 years in Europe before becoming extinct."
[---]
"Recent studies indicate that up to 2.1 percent of the DNA of modern non-African humans is derived from Neanderthals."

Au Revoir, Bloc?

Bloc has 2 members left as another MP quits
"The foundering Bloc Quebecois is down to just two MPs after 10-year veteran Andre Bellevance said Monday that he's quitting to sit as an independent."
Bloc Quebecois loses another MP as Andre Bellavance quits party
"Veteran Bloc Quebecois MP Andre Bellavance announced Monday that he too is quitting the embattled sovereigntist party because he can’t work with its new leader.

Bellavance said he will serve the rest of his mandate as an Independent and won’t seek re-election in 2015."
Bloc MP Andre Bellavance, former leadership candidate, quits party
"Bellavance said his decision to leave the party came after a recent meeting with Bloc Leader Mario Beaulieu, the man who beat Bellavance for the party leadership in June.

The Bloc has been in complete disarray since Beaulieu’s arrival over his approach to running the party. Beaulieu has pushed sovereignty as the main electoral theme even as polls suggest the appetite for it is waning."
André Bellavance quits the Bloc to sit as an Independent
"He blamed Beaulieu for not being able to quell the crisis brewing inside the party and a "witch-hunt" that has seen "pro-Bellavance" supporters harassed online for not being sovereigntist enough.

"Beaulieu calls himself a unifier, but for me, that is not the case," Bellavance said."
MP André Bellavance leaves Bloc Québécois: Will spend the rest of his term as an independent
"The spectacular departure of Richmond-Arthabaska MP André Bellavance from the Bloc Québécois Monday means a party already reduced to a rump in the last election is even weaker, its future more in doubt then ever."
Bloc Quebecois loses another MP: Andre Bellavance quits party; won’t run in 2015
"Bellavance has represented Richmond-Arthabaska since 2004 but the 10-year veteran said that he no longer felt at home in the sovereigntist party under Beaulieu.

He said he simply could not work with Beaulieu going forward.

“I no longer felt comfortable with this team,” Bellavance said. “I don’t feel that we are going in the right direction.”

Bellavance also denounced a “purity test for independence” that has taken place within the party to determine members’ commitment to sovereignty, saying that it had made him feel like an outsider.

“It made me feel like an impostor and an intruder within the Bloc,” Bellavance said.

He noted an “unhealthy atmosphere” within the party and described two very different political outfits: the Bloc Quebecois that existed “before June 14″ and the one “after June 14″ with Beaulieu at the helm."
This is angry Tom's fault.

The Enemy Of My Enemy

Saudi foreign minister: we must denounce our hatred toward Israel and begin normalize ties with Jewish nation
"Speaking on the sidelines of the world assembly of Islamic scholars in Jeddh, Saud bin Faisal Al Saud said that the Middle-East needs peace and co-existence more than ever and Saudi Arabia as a leading Islamic country is ready to make sacrifices in peace negations and encourages President Abbas to follow the same policy.

Referring to the ongoing war in Gaza strip, the Saudi foreign Minster stressed that Hamas authority is the sole responsible for Palestinian calamity and they must brought before the law. [Emphasis mine]

The Saudi official further added that Arab World Increasingly Frustrated With Hamas which is seeking more wars."
[---]
"Media in Saudi Arabia and Egypt blame Hamas’ actions for Israeli war and prioritizing conflict over the safety of the Gazan population and criticized the leadership for waging war far from the conflict, a Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) report shows."
[---]
"“[Meshaal], we are tired of defending the [Palestinian] cause that you have sold for cheap to an MB (Muslim Brotherhood) gang whose way you followed even though they have lost their [own] way,” wrote columnist Abdul-Hamdi Razaq. He also called Meshaal out for living in luxurious Qatari hotels instead of fighting in Gaza.

Hamas is losing its legitimacy because it was sacrificing Palestinians while using financial aid to promote its interests, wrote Al-Watan columnist Abdullah Al-Sayyid."
I've been nursing this theory for some time that the House of Saud is afraid of a Muslim Brotherhood inspired coup. There is obviously no love lost for the MB with the Egyptian regime, either. They are all afraid of Iran and Israel is stronger than all of them combined. We live in interesting times.

(Note: Poor English and grammar exists throughout the text of the article. It looks like it may have been machine translated, or translated by someone whose command of English is very weak.)

Related: Iran to sue Israel over drone issue: spokesperson
"Iran will give a crushing response to any enemy aggression against its soil, Iranian military officials also said on Monday.

"Iran will respond to any aggression, from any aggressor, under any circumstances" and "this is a serious message from Iran," Iran 's Defense Minister Brig. Gen. Hossein Dehqan was quoted as saying by Press TV on Monday.

Meanwhile, Commanders of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) also threatened retaliatory steps in the wake of the downing of the drone.

"We will accelerate arming (Palestinians) in the West Bank and we preserve the rights for any response" to Israel in retaliation for its drone penetrating Iran's space, Amir-Ali Hajizadeh, aerospace commander of IRGC, was quoted as saying by semi-official Fars news agency.

Iran's military forces are fully ready to detect and intercept the flying objects of the enemy over the country's air space, Hajizadeh said Monday, adding that "in case these actions are repeated, the aggressors should wait for our crushing response."

The IRGC said Sunday that it had downed an "Israeli spy drone" near Natanz uranium enrichment site in the central province of Isfahan.

After the drone of Israel, which was a stealth and radar- evading kind, was intercepted by IRGC's air defense system, it was targeted by a missile and downed before penetrating the airspace over the Natanz nuclear site, a statement by IRGC said without elaborating on when the drone was shot down.

It said the main parts of the drone were undamaged, according to Press TV.

Iran's state TV on Monday broadcast footage of an allegedly Israeli drone, showing small scraps of the destroyed drone in a dessert-like area.

"The downed spy drone is Hermes and made in Israel," Hajizadeh said, adding that the operational range of Hermes drones is 800 km and the aircraft can fly 1,600 km by refueling once.

The Israeli drone is equipped with two cameras, enabling the espionage aircraft to capture high-quality images, Press TV quoted him as saying.

The country's military experts will analyze the remaining parts of the downed drone to extract any data stored on its system, Dehqan was also quoted as saying.

The Iranian defense minister said Israel and the United States seek to create the impression that they could penetrate the airspace of any country to conduct spying operations.

On Saturday, Iran launched a uranium-conversion plant which would produce enriched uranium dioxide in Isfahan province within the framework of the agreement with the P5+1 group, namely Britain, China, France, Russia, the United States plus Germany.

Under an interim deal reached between Iran and the P5+1 that came into effect on Jan. 20, Iran would suspend some sensitive nuclear activities in exchange for limited sanction relief, and the two sides would negotiate over a comprehensive deal within six months.

After six months of negotiations, Iran and the six world powers agreed on July 19 to extend their talks until Nov. 24, as disagreements remained over Tehran's uranium enrichment capacity, its Arak heavy water reactor and the sanctions.

The two sides are expected to hold meetings in New York in Sept. ."
All bluster and bravado. The downed drone is probably their own.

Human Shields

The lamestream media seems to be catching on:

Mortar That Killed 4-Year-Old Israeli Was Fired from Civilian Shelter

Captured Hamas Combat Manual Explains Benefits of Human Shields
"Throughout Operation Protective Edge, Hamas has continuously used the civilian population of Gaza as human shields. The discovery of a Hamas “urban warfare” manual by IDF forces reveals that Hamas’ callous use of the Gazan population was intentional and preplanned.

This Hamas urban warfare manual exposes two truths: (1) The terror group knows full well that the IDF will do what it can to limit civilian casualties. (2) The terror group exploits these efforts by using civilians as human shields against advancing IDF forces."

What the Guardian won’t report: new evidence about Hamas Human Shields

World's Largest Ice Sheets Melting At Fastest Rate Ever Recorded

Oh really? And you were around the last time earth lost it's polar icecaps? But I guess you're right. That wasn't recorded. Why it was only a year ago they were up 50% in size:

Top climate scientists admit global warming forecasts were wrong

That explains this, then: World's top climate scientists told to 'cover up' the fact that the Earth's temperature hasn't risen for the last 15 years

The origins of the anthropogenic global warming scare: Margaret Thatcher: Godmother of 'global warming'?
"One of the more cynical theories is that Mrs. Thatcher’s early adoption of the “climate change” issue was rooted in Realpolitik. After the challenge to her power posed by the 1984 Miners’ strike, she wanted to ensure that never again could Britain be held hostage by the National Union of Mineworkers. By posing it as a global environmental issue quite beyond the realm of party politics, she could cunningly reduce Britain’s reliance on coal without provoking further confrontation with the miners.

What’s more, she could use CO2 reduction—just as Swedish Prime Minister Olaf Palme did in the mid-70s—as an excuse to justify a push for otherwise unpopular nuclear energy. Two years after the Chernobyl disaster, a nuclear-plant-building programme would hardly have been a great vote-winner, but the Conservative government needed nuclear processing facilities in order to upgrade its nuclear deterrent with the Trident missile system."

Political Correctness

I've read a few articles that suggest it is. 'bout time, I say:

‘How We Teach History Matters Most'

[---]
“Political correctness carried to ludicrous extremes…would be — and is — history that teaches Canadians, native-born and recent arrivals, that their country is an abomination.

“Unfortunately, that is the history that is today being taught to Canadian children. Yet, to anyone with eyes to see, Canada is not a failure, but an overwhelming success. What is happening in our schools is political indoctrination, grounded in unbalanced historical nonsense…

"News outlets, advocacy groups and fellow think tanks are jumping to the defense of a conservative-leaning D.C. policy center and publication being sued for libel by a scientist who didn't like what they had to say about his work on global warming.Michael Mann, a prominent professor of meteorology at Pennsylvania State University, has long been a target of climate change skeptics for his work claiming temperatures have risen dramatically in recent decades, and has sued before when groups tried to debunk his data.

But this time, Mann is being accused of going too far with his case against the Competitive Enterprise Institute, National Review and others. Critics say the suit threatens to violate constitutionally protected rights to opinion and fair comment, particularly in an area of scientific debate."

Mystery over massive Alexander-era tomb unearthed

Alexander The Great's Tomb Possibly Found In Greece

Archeologists in Greece find large, 'extremely important' tomb from era of Alexander the Great

Ancient Macedon Tomb Discovered in Modern Greece
"The tomb, which dates from around 300BC and is thought to be the largest yet discovered in the country, lies in the ancient Kingdom of Macedon, which now forms part of modern northern Greece. Because of the age, size, and form of decoration it has been suggested by some that the complex may belong to one of Alexander's senior generals or a member of his family, although no specific evidence as to the inhabitant has been uncovered yet.

Due to the ravages of time and iconoclasty of the subsequent Roman occupation of Greece, discovering the exact form is like a jigsaw puzzle for archaeologists who have discovered a large stone lion and a pair of sphinx at the site.

In ancient mythology, the Sphinx was an intelligent and dangerous lion with a human head and wings who acted as guardians and sentinels. In the eponymous Greek myth, Oedipus answers the riddle of the Sphinx to free the city of Thebes in Egypt. Protecting this tomb with a pair of protective creatures shows the deceased for whom it was built was revered and deserving of protection."

What He Said

Muslim Double Standards Abound
"If there is a God, he has some explaining to do.

On the one hand he tells us Muslims in the Qur'an that we are "the best of peoples, evolved for mankind", but then showers us with leaders who bring out the worst in the human soul.

If there is a God, he has some explaining to do.

On the one hand he tells us Muslims in the Qur'an that we are "the best of peoples, evolved for mankind", but then showers us with leaders who bring out the worst in the human soul.
Pakistan's military operations, on the other hand, have killed over 400 and made over 900,000 Pashtun Pakistanis homeless and destitute in their own country.

While the 17,000 Palestinians are finding shelter in United Nations Relief and Works Agency structures, nearly one million Pakistanis are facing a catastrophe that has triggered neither media coverage, nor international aid or protest.

On Monday, a day after an Israeli missile killed 18 family members of the Hamas police chief in Gaza, Iraqi men in Baghdad slaughtered 28 Iraqi women.

There was plenty of fury over the dead family, almost none for the women, for they were alleged to be residents of a brothel, as if that mattered.

Allah's "best of peoples, evolved for mankind", clearly live by a double standard, the one that triggers mammoth support for Palestinians but absolutely none for Pashtuns.

Here's why. It is not the race or religion of the victim that counts, but the identity of their tormentor.

As long as it's an Arab army annihilating fellow Arabs or a Muslim military murdering fellow Muslims, too many Muslims simply shrug away our responsibility and say, "leave it to Allah" as the Qur'an supposedly commands.

However, if the Muslim falls victim to the "kuffar" — meaning the Jew, Christian or Hindu — then many of our clerics take to the pulpit and deliver fiery, end-of-times lectures, using the tragedy as a reason to ignite hatred against the other, in most cases "The Jew"."

More From The Useless Nations Commentary Magazine Contentions The UN Human Rights Farce Gets Worse

The UN Human Rights Farce Gets Worse
"Over the past few decades, the bias against Israel at the United Nations has reached the level of caricature. The disproportionate interest in anything that the Jewish state does matched with the world body’s general indifference to real crimes being perpetrated anywhere else is an object lesson in the definition of prejudice. But just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse, the choice of a man to head a UN Human Rights Council probe of the fighting in Gaza who has already called for the prosecution of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu demonstrates just how ridiculous the anti-Israel farce there has become.

That the UN Human Rights Council, whose membership is made up of many of the worst dictatorships and human-rights offenders in the world, wouldn’t give Israel a fair hearing was already a given. The Council devotes most of its attention to attempts to undermine the Jewish state’s legitimacy or to promote libelous attacks on its policies. While a lot of the attention on this panel was devoted to the decision of George Clooney’s fiancée to decline participation in the probe, the appointment of Canadian law professor William Schabas demonstrates that the Council is not even interested in the appearance of fairness.

Schabas has already demonstrated his animus for Israel and actually called for Netanyahu to be hauled before the International Criminal Court in The Hague for prosecution. Lest anyone think he takes sides in Israeli political debates, he also advocated the prosecution of Shimon Peres in a comment in which he compared Israel’s actions in Gaza to the genocide in Darfur."

"Four guys have been going to the same deer camp for many years. Two days before the group is to leave, Frank’s wife puts her foot down and tells him he isn't going. Frank’s friends are very upset that he can’t go, but what can they do.

Two days later the three get to the camping site only to find Frank sitting there with a tent set up, firewood gathered, and dinner cooking on the fire.

“Damn man, how long you been here, and how did you talk your wife into letting you go?”
“Well, I’ve been here since yesterday. Yesterday evening, I was sitting in my chair and my wife came up behind me and put her hands over my eyes and said, ‘Guess who?’” I pulled her hands off, and she was wearing a brand new see through nightie. She took my hand and pulled me to our bedroom. The room had candles and rose pedals all over. On the bed she had handcuffs, and ropes! She told me to tie and cuff her to the bed, and I did.
And then she said, “Do what ever you want.”

Smooth sailing as Great Lakes levels continue their rebound
"The story of improving Great Lakes water levels can be discerned in the things unheard this summer — such as complaints.

Record snowfalls last winter, coupled with a rainier-than-usual spring and summer, have Great Lakes levels recovering faster than they have in decades.

"See If I Care"

UN Threatens Israel… Israeli Official Says, “See if I Care!”
"The United Nations Human Rights Council has been making fools of themselves by blatantly supporting terrorist organizations against Israel since its inception in 2006. U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay recently said, for example, that Israel may be guilty of war crimes for not providing its Iron Dome defense technology to the Hamas terrorists to use to protect civilians in Gaza.

The council apparently does not know–or, more likely, does not care–that Hamas began the current conflict with the kidnapping and murder of three Israeli teenagers and has since fired more than 3,000 rockets at Israel while hiding in the Gaza Strip behind human shields.

In a blatantly anti-Semitic move, the council recently voted 29-1 to investigate Israel for possible human rights violations in its conflict with the radical Islamic terrorists in the Gaza Strip. The United States, to her credit, was the one dissenting vote; the European members of the council mostly abstained, no doubt fearing Muslim backlash in their home countries.

According to WZ, Israeli Minister of Justice Tzipi Livni issued a brief response to the vote on Facebook: “I have [four] words to say about the decision of the UN human rights council – see if I care!”"
Up yours, U.N..

Hamas Executes One of Its Leaders - Then Blames Israel
"Sources in the Gaza Strip said on Thursday that Taha was executed because Hamas feared he might implicate some of its leaders in many corruption scandals. "The man knew too much about the senior leaders of Hamas."

The international media, for its part, will simply endorse the Hamas story because it is more convenient to blame Israel than to get into trouble with a radical Islamist movement that carries out extra-judicial executions.

Militiamen on Thursday dumped the bullet-riddled body of Ayman Taha, a former prominent Hamas figure, outside Gaza City's Shifa Hospital.

The body remained on the ground for nearly an hour before other militiamen came back and took it to an unknown destination.

Palestinians who were at the hospital were too afraid to remove the body.

A few hours later, Taha's body was handed over to Shifa Hospital by a number of Hamas militiamen.

Palestinian journalists said that Taha had been executed for spying on behalf of an Arab intelligence service and involvement in financial corruption."
[---]
"According to the journalists, Taha was executed by a firing squad three days ago. They said that he died instantly of gunshots to the head and chest.

Hamas's armed wing, Izaddin al-Qassam, arrested Taha in 2013 on suspicion that he had served as an informant for the Egyptian General Intelligence Service."
[---]
"Sources in the Gaza Strip said on Thursday that Taha was executed because Hamas feared he might implicate some of its leaders in many corruption scandals. "The man knew too much about the senior leaders of Hamas," said a veteran journalist living in Gaza City who had close ties with Taha. "Hamas leaders used to take him with them on their visits to different countries.""
Is Hamas falling apart? Certainly their Arab neighbours are getting sick and tired of them. Well, Egypt anyway.
"Although Hamas never named the Arab intelligence party to which Taha was allegedly linked, Palestinians familiar with the case have pointed at Egypt's General Intelligence Service as being responsible for the recruitment of the slain Hamas figure.

The Taha affair has seriously embarrassed the Hamas leadership. His arrest last year came as a shock to Hamas leaders and followers, who noted that this was the first case of its kind since the Islamist movement was founded in 1988.

What was even more embarrassing was that the slain man was the son of Mohammed Taha, one of the most prominent leaders of Hamas and former director of the Islamic University in Gaza City."
[---]
"Interestingly, Taha was executed for collaboration with the Egyptians exactly at the same time that senior representatives of Hamas were negotiating in Cairo with the head of Egypt's General Intelligence Service about ways of achieving a permanent cease-fire with Israel.

The execution is apparently aimed at sending a message to the Egyptians that Hamas would not tolerate Cairo's attempt to meddle in the internal affairs of the Islamist movement. A Hamas source said that the arrest of Taha was a "severe blow" to the Egyptians because they had lost one of their most important informants inside the movement.

The execution of Taha is likely to aggravate tensions between Hamas and the Egyptian authorities. Needless to say, the new regime of President Abdel Fattah Sisi already considers Hamas a hostile party and threat to Egypt's national security."
We live in interesting times.

No Plans for Canada Invasion, Pentagon Leader Says
"Wednesday’s hearing of the Senate Appropriations Defense Subcommittee was informative on a great many serious subjects. It also revealed that the United States isn’t prepared to take aggressive action against its looming menace to the north, according to the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff."
[---]
"The Obama administration has previously denied any secret plan to invade Canada, but this is the first public admission that it has no blueprint to be able to do so if needed.

If Dempsey is to be believed — and some Canadians have assumed that the U.S. military has just such a plan on the shelf — he is ignoring military history. The United States found cause to invade Canada in 1775 and 1812, then developed War Plan Red in the 1920s and 30s, which contemplated a potential invasion of Canada. And as recently as 1999, a bloody, near-apocalyptic (fictional) war with Canada broke out.

No word on whether the United States has a plan to defend itself should Canada invade U.S. soil, so there’s no need just yet for American citizens to emotionally brace themselves for a stampede of moose-riding, maple syrup-guzzling Mounties to become our new overlords."

Yet Another Form Of Deception

Assorted leftards in the Western world should be feeling pretty stupid by now:

"Spokesman Capt Eytan Buchman told BBC News that "the UN numbers being reported are, by and by large, based on the Gaza health ministry, a Hamas-run organisation".

He said that part of the reason for the discrepancy between the figures was "when militants are brought to hospitals, they are brought in civilian clothing, obscuring terrorist affiliations"."

You Say That...

...as if it's a bad thing:

Canadian govt complicit in Israeli war crimes
"In the midst of international condemnation of Israel’s attacks on civilians in Gaza, Canada’s ambassador to the UN issued a statement last week unequivocally supporting Israel’s “right to defend itself” and maintaining that Hamas was a “terrorist organization,” laying blame for civilian deaths firmly at the Palestinian group’s feet.

On Wednesday this week, Canadian Prime Minister Steven Harper reiterated this stance after the Israeli bombing of a UN school in Gaza that killed at least 17 displaced Palestinians who were sheltering there, saying, “We hold the terrorist organization Hamas responsible for this. They have initiated and continue this conflict and continue to seek the destruction of the state of Israel.""
[---]
"While Harper’s support for right wing Israeli politicians is in step with his support base, a large component of whom are evangelical Christians fundamentally opposed to a two-state solution, it’s becoming an issue in his growing unpopularity with Canadian voters."
The author even manages to get an anti-Christian slur in there, and he manages to put in a plug for all the right (read leftist) people: Judy Rebick, Rabble, KAIROS, the UN Security Council, Margaret Atwood, Tubby-er-Libby Davies. (Heavy sigh.)

Tornadoes's increased frequency, strength linked with climate change
"The climate change may be playing as a key role in the strength and frequency of tornadoes, according to a research by a Florida State University geography professor. Tornadoes are forming at a greater density and strength than ever before, but they are forming for fewer days per year."
[---]
"According to the NOAA/National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, the 2011 tornado season had nearly 1,700 storms and killed more than 550 people. While in 2014,there have been 189 storms with a death toll of 43.

Many researchers dismissed the impact of climate change on tornadoes because there was no distinct pattern in the number of tornado days per year, as said in the past by James Elser. In 1971, there were 187 tornado days, but in 2013 there were only 79 days with tornadoes."

Ya Think!!

The empty spaces in Gaza (Emphasis mine throughout.)
"...How many times have you heard on television or read in the media that the Gaza Strip is "the most densely populated area in the world"? Repeating this statement, however, does not make it true. There are dense parts of Gaza, especially Gaza City, Beit Hanoun and Khan Younis, but there are far less dense areas in Gaza between these cities."
[---]
"The fact that these sparsely populated areas exist in the Gaza Strip raise several important moral questions: First, why don't the media show the relatively open areas of the Gaza Strip? Why do they only show the densely populated cities? There are several possible reasons. There is no fighting going on in the sparsely populated areas, so showing them would be boring. But that's precisely the point—to show areas from which Hamas could be firing rockets and building tunnels but has chosen not to. Or perhaps the reason the media doesn't show these areas is that Hamas won't let them. That too would be a story worth reporting.

Second, why doesn't Hamas use sparsely populated areas from which to launch its rockets and build its tunnels? Were it to do so, Palestinian civilian casualties would decrease dramatically, but the casualty rate among Hamas terrorists would increase dramatically. That is precisely why Hamas selects the most densely populated areas from which to fire and dig. The difference between Israel and Hamas is that Israel uses its soldiers to protect its civilians, whereas Hamas uses its civilians to protect its terrorists. That is why most of Israeli casualties have been soldiers and most of Hamas' casualties have been civilians. The other reason is that Israel builds shelters for its civilians, whereas Hamas builds shelters only for its terrorists, intending that most of the casualties be among its civilian shields.

The law is clear: using civilians as human shields—which the Hamas battle manual mandates—is an absolute war crime. There are no exceptions or matters of degree, especially when there are alternatives. On the other hand, shooting at legitimate military targets, such as rockets and terror tunnels is permitted, unless the number of anticipated civilian casualties is disproportionate to the military importance of the target. This is a matter of degree and judgment, often difficult to calculate in the fog of war. The law is also clear that when a criminal takes a hostage and uses that hostage as a shield from behind whom to fire at civilians or police, and if the police fire back and kill the hostage, it is the criminal and not the policeman who is guilty of murder. So too with Hamas: when it uses human shields and the Israeli military fires back and kills some of the shields, it is Hamas who is responsible for their deaths.

The third moral question is why does the United Nations try to shelter Palestinian civilians right in the middle of the areas from which Hamas is firing? Hamas has decided not to use the less densely populated areas for rocket firing and tunnel digging. For that reason, the United Nations should use these sparsely populated areas as places of refuge. Since the Gaza Strip is relatively small, it would not be difficult to move civilians to these safer areas. They should declare these areas battle free and build temporary shelters—tents if necessary—as places of asylum for the residents of the crowded cities. It should prevent any Hamas fighters, any rockets and any tunnel builders from entering into these sanctuaries. In that way, Hamas would be denied the use of human shields and Israel would have no reason to fire its weapons anywhere near these United Nations sanctuaries. The net result would be a considerable saving of lives.

But instead the UN is playing right into the hands of Hamas, by sheltering civilians right next to Hamas fighters, Hamas weapons and Hamas tunnels. Then the United Nations and the international community accuses Israel of doing precisely what Hamas intended Israel to do: namely fire at its terrorists and kill United Nations protected civilians in the process. It's a cynical game being played by Hamas, but it wouldn't succeed without the complicity of UN agencies.

The only way to assure that Hamas' strategy of using human shields to maximize civilian casualties is not repeated over and over again is for the international community, and especially the United Nations, not to encourage and facilitate it, as it currently does. International law must be enforced against Hamas for its double war crime: using civilian human shields to fire at civilian Israeli targets. If this tactic were to be brought to a halt, then Israel would have no need to respond in self-defense."

Caught In The Act

BWHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

Israel Is Just Mopping Up...

In New York, Yet

Way To Go, Italy!!

Refreshing, But I'm Not Holding...

...my breath: Arab Like Me
"There are two kinds of Arabs in this world. Those who hate Jews, and those who don’t. And in my life, I have met more of the former than the latter.

I am not proud to say that. Arabs will not like me for admitting it. But it is true. And it is something I wish the Obama administration understood. It is something Americans should know as the “Arab Spring” enters its second year.

I didn’t know much about any of this as a Lebanese kid growing up in New Jersey. But I found out about it when I wrote my first pro-Israel column for my college paper as a young student journalist.

I defended Israel on some point I’ve long forgotten, but what I’ll never forget is the backlash I received from fellow Arabs. Some were Americans, others were students from Arab countries, many of whom I counted as friends.

First came the letters to the editor, then the personal insults. It was as if I’d broken a secret code I didn’t know existed. Some secret blood oath, which goes something like this: Arabs don’t speak unkindly of Arabs in public, or kindly about Israel.

The backlash stunned me. I pondered the pounding I had taken, and floundered a bit. I even thought for a short time of writing something negative about Israel the next time I had a chance, just to balance things out and reestablish my Arab bona fides."

Climate Change Unreason
"It is a cruel irony that, while it was science which, more than anything else, was able by its great achievements, to establish the age of reason, it is all too many climate scientists and their hangers-on who have become the high priests of a new age of unreason.

But what moves me most is that the policies invoked in its name are grossly immoral...

[T]he greatest immorality of all concerns the masses in the developing world. It is excellent that, in so many parts of the developing world—the so-called emerging economies—economic growth is now firmly on the march, as they belatedly put in place the sort of economic policy framework that brought prosperity to the Western world. Inevitably, they already account for, and will increasingly account for, the lion's share of global carbon emissions.

But, despite their success, there are still hundreds of millions of people in these countries in dire poverty, suffering all the ills that this brings, in terms of malnutrition, preventable disease, and premature death. Asking these countries to abandon the cheapest available sources of energy is, at the very least, asking them to delay the conquest of malnutrition, to perpetuate the incidence of preventable disease, and to increase the numbers of premature deaths."

Captured Hamas Combat Manual Explains Benefits of Human Shields
"IDF forces in the Gaza Strip found a Hamas manual on “Urban Warfare,” which belonged to the Shuja’iya Brigade of Hamas’ military wing, the Al-Qassam Brigades. The manual explains how the civilian population can be used against IDF forces and reveals that Hamas knows the IDF is committed to minimizing harm to civilians.

Throughout Operation Protective Edge, Hamas has continuously used the civilian population of Gaza as human shields.

A Journalist Tells The Truth...

This Is Rich!

UPDATE

 ==============Original Starts Here==============
Hope among the ruins: Gaza looks to post-war aid to rebuild "This time, Mohammed Mustafa said, Palestinians hope future donors will make good on aid pledges. In 2009, only a fraction of the nearly $5 billion in funds promised at an international conference after a three-week war between Israel and Gaza's ruling Hamas actually arrived in the battered enclave.

"Once a ceasefire is reached, we will have to tackle the immediate problem of rehousing those who lost their homes," Mustafa told Reuters. "According to our estimates, they may number 400,000 people."

I sure hope not one dime of Canadian money goes to that project, or if it does, it's contingent upon Hamas leaders being arrested and brought to justice. Won't happen of course.

Israel, Hamas And Canada

"The usual political reaction from Israel’s allies when such an event occurs is to condemn the attack and sternly demand that Israel try better at avoiding civilian casualties.

Canada has in the past reacted in the usual and expected manner, but today’s Canada under Stephen Harper refuses to do so. To Harper’s detractors, it is a sign of moral bankruptcy, but in fact it is a sign of moral courage. What would it achieve to condemn Israel in this instance? Will such condemnation suddenly drive Israel to find a way to fight a war against Hamas without any injury to civilians? Or will such condemnation embolden Hamas in its strategy of accumulating civilian casualties in order to gain the world’s sympathy and support for Israeli concessions? The latter is of course true, and everyone but the most naive people know it."
[---]
"Harper does not want to see more civilian deaths, but he also refuses to use such tragedies to score political points. Harper said, “obviously no one likes to see the suffering and loss of life that has occurred”. Such a statement should suffice, and in fact as he says, such compassion is “obvious”, but Harper’s critics demand much more; they demand what they call “balance”. They like to pretend that Israel could stop more tragedies by simply giving up against Hamas, but Harper has no common ground with such people, and he does not even try to gratify them with a symbolic condemnation of Israel.

It is extremely clear to anyone who understands the history of the Israel / Arab conflict that in the war between Israel and Hamas, one side is right and the other side is wrong. One side would make peace in an instant if the occasion presented itself while the other side will not stop until forcibly stopped. One side goes to great lengths to avoid civilian deaths while the other side goes to similarly great lengths to ensure the death of as many civilians as possible on both sides. On side wants to live, trade, grow, innovate, and the other side wants to pile up the dead bodies until Islamist victory.

U.S. President Barack Obama knows this. British Prime Minister David Cameron knows this. Every Western world leader knows this, but only one world leader is willing to go to the logical conclusion and support Israel “through fire and water”, without excuses, without compromises, without political double-speak, and without misplaced political correctness. This is moral courage. This is courage that the world needs now more than ever."

The Middle East - Yawn

The Deaths Of Civilians In Gaza Must End, And Only The UN Can Do It!!!
"While the UN won't discuss the rocket caches and the Hamas laid booby traps in supposedly neutral UN facilities. mosques and civilian homes or Hamas using civilians as human shields, there is one thing the UN and of course, the media, weighed in on quite extensively...civilian casualties in Gaza. The latest instance was the shelling of a UN school in the Jabaliya refugee camp in northern Gaza yesterday...which of course, the UN is blaming on Israel. It was being used as a shelter for civilians whom had evacuated elsewhere. At least 16 people were killed and some 100 wounded.

This occurred during a humanitarian truce which as usual, only Israel observed."

At UN, Canada Blames Hamas for Gaza Casualties
"Canada used a chance to speak at the United Nations to issue a strong defence of Israel in the Israeli-Hamas conflict and blamed militants in the Gaza Strip for a death toll that has now climbed above 600.

“The indiscriminate rocket attacks from Gaza on Israel are terrorist acts, for which there can be no justification,” Guillermo Rishchynski, Canada’s representative to the UN, said in a debate before the Security Council.

Hamas, the militant group that controls Gaza, has “sought to deliberately put civilians, from both sides, in mortal danger. We mourn the resulting death and suffering,” Rishchynski said during Canada’s turn in a day of national statements on the Middle East crisis.

“The Israel Defense Forces have continued to demonstrate a commitment to minimize civilian casualties in response to the relentless rocket attacks,” he added. Rishchynski’s comments were in contrast to remarks by a number of countries that expressed dire concerns about the mounting civilian casualties from Israel’s offensive in Gaza and pressed Israel to do more to lessen the carnage."

Yay, Canada!

Corruption In Indian Country

Band members call for chief’s removal
"Members of the Kwikwetlem First Nation are demanding their chief resign and an immediate audit be conducted over revelations his total salary amounted to almost $1-million last year.

Figures released under a new federal law showed Chief Ron Giesbrecht was paid an $800,000 bonus, and band member Ron Jackman said late on Friday that at least half of the small First Nation of 80 people stand behind a call to remove Mr. Giesbrecht from office.

Mr. Jackman said the group wants Mr. Giesbrecht gone by next Friday or it will hold an emergency meeting of the band to remove him.

“There’s been outrage because people are struggling and he’s kept $800,000 for himself,” said Mr. Jackman, adding that he stepped forward to speak for those opposed to the chief.

He said band members knew the money came into the community as a result of a business deal, but did not know that much had gone to Mr. Giesbrecht.

Mr. Jackman, a 39-year-old band member and student at the B.C. Institute of Technology, said that in June, members of the community were mailed $10,000 cheques as part of that deal."

What goes around comes around. Mind you, this could be just another faction on the reserve salivating at the prospect that they may now be able to mosey on up to the trough.

And when am I going to get my $10,000 cheque? It's high time the gravy train stopped by my house. First thing I'll do is pay off my mortgage. I didn't get a free house.
