You Know They've Lost...

...the debate, when people start making fun of it:

Polar Vortex Causes Hundreds of Injuries as People Making Snide Remarks About Climate Change Are Punched in Face
"In an emergency room in St. Paul, Harland Dorrinson, forty-one, was waiting to be treated for bruising to the facial area after he made a crack about how the below-freezing temperatures meant that climate-change activists were full of shit.

“I’d just finished saying it and boom, out of nowhere someone punched me in the face,” he said. “This polar vortex is really dangerous.”

The meteorology professor Davis Logsdon, of the University of Minnesota, issued a safety warning to residents of the states hammered by the historic low temperatures: “If you are living within the range of the polar vortex and you have something idiotic to say about climate change, do not leave your house.”
Pretty close to the truth, too.

Lamestream Media Exposed

Pew Study Finds MSNBC the Most Opinionated Cable News Channel By Far
"A full 85% of the Comcast-owned network’s coverage can be classified as opinion or commentary rather than straight news, according to the authors of the Pew Research Center’s annual State of the News Media report.

CNN and Fox News Channel, meanwhile, fall much closer to a 50/50 distribution, with Fox News skewing somewhat more heavily toward opinion."
[---]
"Nearly a third of those surveyed, or 31%, said they had ceased relying on a particular news outlet because it no longer provided them with the sort of news they were used to getting.

To learn exactly what respondents meant by that, Pew asked whether the issue was quantity — ie. fewer stories — or quality. Overwhelmingly, they chose the latter, with 60.7% citing “less complete” coverage as the reason for turning away, versus 23.5% who chose “fewer stories.”"

1. Stop lying about sea ice. The amount of sea ice on Earth is near a record high.

2. Stop lying about global warming. There hasn’t been any significant troposphere warming for 18 years.

3. Stop lying about climate models. They are a disaster and 97% overpredict warming.

#4. Stop lying about sea level. 80% of tide gauges show less rise than the official “global average”. Many tide gauges show no rise in sea level, and almost none show any acceleration over the past 20 years.

#5. Stop lying about drought. Droughts in the US are becoming less severe and less frequent, and the US has been wetter than normal over the past year.

#6. Stop lying about snow. Autumn/Winter snow cover has increased to record levels.

#7. Stop tampering with temperature data.

#8. Stop making up thermometer data where it doesn’t actually exist

Muslims And Crime

IS ANYBODY SURPRISED? NORWAY DEPORTS MUSLIMS, CRIME RATE DROPS 31%
"Beginning this past January, the new Norwegian Prime Minister, Erna Solberg began a program which targets and deports Muslims who have ties to radical groups.

While many in America would say this is racist, it's worked in dramatic fashion. Violent crimes are down more than 31% in Norway."
[---]
"A record number of people were deported by Norwegian authorities in October, said government sources.

The National Police Immigration Service Norway (Politiets Utlendingsenhet – PU) deported 824 people in October, which is a new record.

The previous record was set in September, the month prior, when 763 people were deported, reported Dagsavisen.

PU believe some of the reasons for the rise in figures are more resources, more staff and a change of “portfolio priorities”. It has also become easier for Norwegian authorities to deport people back to Afghanistan and Nigeria."
[---]
"A percentage of those deported in 2014 were asylum seekers who had their application for continued asylum rejected. They were then deported along with their families. The majority of deportees, however, had committed crimes, or had returned illegally to Norway after being deported.
"Not everybody in Norway is happy with the increased deportations. One academic {Emphasia mine) slammed the new policies:

“Norwegian women must take responsibility for the fact that Muslim men find their manner of dress provocative. And since these men believe women are responsible for rape, the women must adapt to the multicultural society around them.” – Dr. Unni Wikan, Professor of Social Anthropology at the University of Oslo"

So, Dr Wikan, using your logic, it is the victim's fault they have been raped? Not in this universe. You sir may have book smarts, but you sure don't have any common sense.

And there you have it! Kicking out radical Muslims makes a nation safer and peaceable. Women can walk around without fear of being raped, people just get along a lot better.

That's What I Thought

Polar Ice Not Melting, But Global Warming Story Is
""The North and South Poles are 'not melting,'" the British Express reported on Christmas.

"In fact," the Express said in its coverage of Maksym's finding, "the poles are 'much more stable' than climate scientists once predicted and could even be much thicker than previously thought."

Remember those words "previously thought." In the future we will be seeing them a lot more in reference to the continued unraveling of the global warming fable. In the meantime, kudos to the Express for publishing what the mainstream American media refuse to report."

[---]
"Why was ‘hate sheikh’ at large?” ran the Daily Telegraph headline after the recent Islamist outrage in Australia. That’s a reasonable question, given the Muslim hate sheikh’s record of endless troublemaking. No doubt the Sydney police and the court that granted him bail will also be asking the same question.

And what a track record this serial welfarist parasite and hate preacher had. At the time of the Sydney siege, Man Haron Monis, an Iranian refugee, was already facing charges of involvement in the murder of his wife. Yet he was free to walk the streets.

He had also been convicted of sending grossly offensive letters to the families of soldiers who had fought and died in Afghanistan.

But even that conviction didn’t take the self-styled imam off Australia’s streets. His punishment was 300 hours of “community service”. In other words, the his punishment was to “improve the lives” of the same Australian community he detested and would later terrorise.

Considering that he was also facing 40 counts of sexual assault and indecency, one wonders if he committed any of those sexual assaults as part of his “community service”.

Just what did the Australian authorities think they were up against in a man like Haron Monis? Would they have been so lenient with a non-Muslim? Did the police not ask why, given that this hate sheikh clearly despised Australian values and culture, he had not been deported?"

Weather Bulletin 3: International Cold Spell

"...cold weather has claimed the lives of five Marylander’s between mid-November and Mid-December."
[---]
"The Japan Times reports that six people died during extremely heavy snow which blanketed much of Japan December 5-7. The blizzard left more than 1,200 people in the Tokushima Prefecture cut off from the rest of the nation as roads were blocked due to snow, falling trees and rocks. More than 45 inches of snow fell in the Sukayu area of Japan, and 38 inches of snow covered the village of Okura."
[---]
"Just across the Sea of Japan, South Korea also suffered from bitterly cold weather and unusual amounts of snowfall with Seoul experiencing fall temperatures of 13 degrees below zero. Snow and strong winds knocked down power lines in eight towns across two districts leaving more than 37,000 families shivering in the cold."
[---]
"Meanwhile parts of India are also experiencing unusually cold weather. Mountainous tribal areas were 15 to 20 degrees below freezing point while Keylong, Manali and Kalpa recorded a low of 19 degrees , 26 degrees and minus 29 degrees respectively. As a result, lakes and other natural sources of water like springs, creeks and tributaries of major rivers are frozen in high altitude areas.

Even the nation’s capital experienced temperatures seven degrees below average for this time of year. Four peoples deaths have been attributed to the cold weather."
The next ice age cometh?

Like I've Always Said...

Global warming's influence on extreme weather
"Understanding the cause-and-effect relationship between global warming and record-breaking weather requires asking precisely the right questions. Extreme climate and weather events such as record high temperatures, intense downpours and severe storm surges are becoming more common in many parts of the world. But because high-quality weather records go back only about 100 years, most scientists have been reluctant to say if global warming affected particular extreme events."
Emphasis mine.

German soldiers preserved in World War I shelter discovered after nearly 100 years
"The men were part of a larger group of 34 who were buried alive when an Allied shell exploded above the tunnel during World War One causing it to cave in."
[---]
"Many of the skeletal remains were found in the same positions the men had been in at the time of the collapse, prompting experts to liken the scene to Pompeii.

A number of the soldiers were discovered sitting upright on a bench, one was lying in his bed and another was in the foetal position having been thrown down a flight of stairs."
[---]
"Archaeologists believe the items were so well preserved because hardly any air, water or lights had penetrated the trench.

The 300ft long tunnel was located 18ft beneath the surface near the small town of Carspach in the Alsace region in France.

Michael Landolt, the archaeologist leading the dig, said: "It's a bit like Pompeii."
[---]
"The dead soldiers were part of the 6th Company, 94th Reserve Infantry Regiment.

Their names are all known. They include Musketeer Martin Heidrich, 20, Private Harry Bierkamp, 22, and Lieutenant August Hutten, 37.

Their names are inscribed on a memorial in the nearby German war cemetery of Illfurth.

The bodies have been handed over to the German War Graves Commission but unless relatives can be found and they request the remains to be repatriated, it is planned that the men will be buried at Illfurth."
[---]
"It is estimated that over 165,000 Commonwealth soldiers are still unaccounted for on the Western Front"

Embarrassing Predictions Haunt the Global-Warming Industry
"Putting aside the fact that there is no global-warming “consensus” among experts, one does not have to be a scientist, or even proficient in science, to be able to review past predictions, and then form an informed opinion regarding the accuracy of those predictions."
[---]
"Warnings have been issued for many decades now regarding catastrophic climate change that forecasted certain trends or occurrences that we should already have witnessed. Yet such predictions have turned out to be very, very wrong. This was certainly the case with the alarmist predictions of the 1960s and ’70s that man’s activities on Earth were causing a catastrophic cooling trend that would bring on another ice age. And it is also the case with the more recent claims about catastrophic global warming.

What follows is a very brief review of these predictions compared to what actually happened."
[---]
"Americans who lived through the 1960s and ’70s may remember the dire global-cooling predictions that were hyped and given great credibility by Newsweek, Time, Life, National Geographic, and numerous other mainstream media outlets. According to the man-made global-cooling theories of the time, billions of people should be dead by now owing to cooling-linked crop failures and starvation.

“If present trends continue, the world will be about four degrees colder for the global mean temperature in 1990, but 11 degrees colder by the year 2000,” claimed ecology professor Kenneth E.F. Watt at the University of California in 1970. “This is about twice what it would take to put us in an ice age.” Of course, 2000 came and went, and the world did not get 11 degrees colder. No ice age arrived, either.

In 1971, another global-cooling alarmist, Stanford University professor Paul Ehrlich, who is perhaps best known for his 1968 book The Population Bomb, made similarly wild forecasts for the end of the millennium in a speech at the British Institute for Biology. “By the year 2000 the United Kingdom will be simply a small group of impoverished islands, inhabited by some 70 million hungry people,” he claimed. “If I were a gambler, I would take even money that England will not exist in the year 2000 and give ten to one that the life of the average Briton would be of distinctly lower quality than it is today.” Of course, England still exists, and its population was doing much better in 2000 than when Ehrlich made his kooky claims. But long before 2000, Ehrlich had abandoned global-cooling alarmism in favor of warning that the Earth faced catastrophic global warming. Now he is warning that humans may soon be forced to resort to cannibalism."
[---]
"Of course, the big alleged threat hyped in recent decades has been global warming, not global cooling. But the accuracy of the climate-change predictions since the cooling fears melted away has hardly improved."
[---]
"The 2005 UNEP predictions claimed that, by 2010, some 50 million “climate refugees” would be frantically fleeing from those regions of the globe. However, not only did the areas in question fail to produce a single “climate refugee,” by 2010, population levels for those regions were actually still soaring. In many cases, the areas that were supposed to be producing waves of “climate refugees” and becoming uninhabitable turned out to be some of the fastest-growing places on Earth."
[---]
"By now, according to the “not implausible” scaremongering outlined in the report for a 10-year time period, the world should be a post-apocalyptic disaster zone. Among other outlandish scenarios envisioned in the report over the preceding decade: California flooded with inland seas, parts of the Netherlands “unlivable,” polar ice all but gone in the summers, and surging temperatures. Mass increases in hurricanes, tornadoes, and other natural disasters were supposed to be wreaking havoc across the globe, too. All of that would supposedly spark resource wars and all sorts of other horrors. But none of it actually happened."
[---]
"After the outlandish predictions of snowless winters failed to materialize, the CRU dramatically changed its tune on snowfall. All across Britain, in fact, global-warming alarmists rushed to blame the record cold and heavy snow experienced in recent years on — you guessed it! — global warming. Less snow: global warming. More snow: global warming. Get it? Good."

Climate Scientist Who Got It Right Predicts 20 More Years of Global Cooling
"Dr. Don Easterbrook – a climate scientist and glacier expert from Washington State who correctly predicted back in 2000 that the Earth was entering a cooling phase – says to expect colder temperatures for at least the next two decades.

Easterbrook’s predictions were “right on the money” seven years before Al Gore and the United Nation’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) shared the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize for warning that the Earth was facing catastrophic warming caused by rising levels of carbon dioxide, which Gore called a “planetary emergency"

Tell That to the Hollyweird Types...

...who travel to Fort Mac to boost their sagging fortunes by dissing the Canadian oilsands:

How clean is our ‘dirty’ oil? You’d be surprised.

"Researchers for California’s Low Carbon Fuel Standard have recently released new data measuring the carbon intensity of various crude oil blends, including diluted bitumen (a.k.a. ‘dilbit’) and upgraded synthetic crude oil (‘SCO’) from the Canadian oilsands. The Californian findings will not be well-received by anti-oilsands activists.

Among the findings that may surprise:

• There are 13 oil fields in California, plus crude oil blends originating in at least six other countries, that generate a higher level of upstream greenhouse gas emissions than Canadian dilbit blends;

• Crude oil from Alaska’s North Slope, which makes up about 12 per cent of California’s total crude slate, is actually “dirtier” than the Canadian dilbit known as “Access Western Blend”;

• The “dirtiest oil in North America” is not produced in Canada, but just outside Los Angeles, where the Placerita oil field generates about twice the level of upstream emissions as Canadian oilsands production; and

• The title of “world’s dirtiest oil” goes to Brass crude blend from Nigeria, where the uncontrolled release of methane during the oil extraction process generates upstream GHG emissions that are over four times higher than Canadian dilbit."

Friends of Science says this challenges their Canadian Charter Right of Freedom of Speech, as well as defying the Sierra Club’s own stated mandate."

An Aboriginal Woman...

...tells it like it is:

Aboriginal women fear their own kind the most
"In the fall of 1988, I was in first-year law school at the University of British Columbia. Our criminal law teacher recommended we all go downtown and watch a trial where alcohol was being considered the murder weapon for the first time. There were over 200 of us in first year criminal law. Only my mom and I attended the trial.

Although Gilbert Paul Jordan, a.k.a. "the Boozing Barber," was linked to the deaths of at least 10 women, he was convicted of manslaughter in relation to the death of only one. Evidence at his trial showed all the women he had targeted, hundreds of women, were aboriginal. Fact is, aboriginal women who were alcoholic or down on their luck ended up dead.

That was 1988. I was 28, and had just finished undergrad work, escaped a violent marriage in my early 20s and had survived a teenage rape. In 2011, some 23 years later, I ran for national chief of the Assembly of First Nations as one of eight candidates, one of four indigenous women.

I'm writing this to share my views on sexism in our community and any linkage I see to violence against women in our community and our conspicuous absence as leaders within our communities. Some 90 per cent or so of the chiefs eligible to vote for national chief are men.

In my opinion, there is a link. Aboriginal men kill aboriginal women and girls, rape aboriginal women and girls, beat aboriginal women and girls, and no one is really talking about the moose in our living room."
As if we didn't know. But thanks for confirming it. Godspeed.

Creak. Groan.

I've been watching videos about Jean Beliveau, which are all over the place. What a man! What a hockey player! What a legend!

It's making me feel really old, too, 'cause I remember him playing, back in the days when there were only six teams and television was in black and white.

"We've Got Two Problems. Rats and the Government"

Africa's cheetahs versus hippos

This needs to happen with the aboriginal people in Canada. I'm not holding my breath, though.

After WWII, when African nations became independent of Great Britain and other colonial powers, First Nations people in Canada looked longingly at events in that continent and to a large extent to that process (decolonization), which gave rise to the modern Indian movement. Just as in Africa, things went horribly wrong. Brutal dictatorships prevailed. Governments changed hands at the barrel of a tank. In a sense, the same thing happened in Canada, sans the tanks. Brutality and politically correct rhetoric took over in both places.

As this video shows, Africans are rejecting the rhetoric and brutality of the post-colonial era and the dictators who embodied it. No longer are they blaming all their problems on the boogie-man - European colonialism - and are taking responsibility for their circumstances and for their failures and are charting a new future. Some day, hopefully, a version of that will happen here.

Do These Reserves...

...realize how stupid it is to call themselves "nations"?

Chiefs call for aboriginal community to defend against transparency law

Most reserves have populations of only a few hundred. A handful might have a few thousand. Even the smallest nations of the world have much, much more than that, with the only notable exception being Vatican City, and it has 839 people, which is larger than many so-called First Nations, and it can hardly be considered a typical "nation" being simply a religious institution with no families among its population.

This list shows the smallest country to be Pitcairn Islands, but it's shown as a "dependent" of the United Kingdom. This is another list that shows Kiribati as the smallest nation on the planet, with a population of 100,835.

Another list showing area (sq. miles) as well as population and another showing area in terms of sq. kilometres.

If a group of reserves sharing an identical culture, language and history were to collectively call themselves a nation, it would make much more sense. The territory of Plains Cree, for example, who were signatories to Treaty Six stretches all to way from the Manitoba/Saskatchewan border to the Rocky mountains could be called a "nation" with the individual reserves being communities within that "nation".

Oh well. Who am I to complain if they want to make fools of themselves?

LOL! One More Time

IPCC report warns greenhouse gas levels at highest point in 800,000 years, identifies fossil fuels as cause of recent increases

Gee. You mean it was this high 800,000 years ago? And just how much in the way of fossil fuels were being burned 800,000 years ago? Hmmmm?

There weren't even humans around then.

From Wikipedea:
"Archaic Homo sapiens, the forerunner of anatomically modern humans, evolved between 400,000 and 250,000 years ago. Recent DNA evidence suggests that several haplotypes of Neanderthal origin are present among all non-African populations, and Neanderthals and other hominids, such as Denisova hominin may have contributed up to 6% of their genome to present-day humans, suggestive of a limited inter-breeding between these species. Anatomically modern humans evolved from archaic Homo sapiens in the Middle Paleolithic, about 200,000 years ago. The transition to behavioral modernity with the development of symbolic culture, language, and specialized lithic technology happened around 50,000 years ago according to many anthropologists although some suggest a gradual change in behavior over a longer time span."

Does That Include Me, I Wonder

A Very Interesting Piece on Egypt and Modernity

Is Islamism in decline?

Poised opposite Cairo university stands a grand statue of a traditional peasant woman (often used to depict Egypt) lifting her veil while standing next to a couchant Sphinx. The statue known as “Egypt’s Renaissance” was created in the 1920ies by the famous Egyptian sculptor Mahmoud Mokhtar and symbolizes hopes of modernity after a long history of colonization.

Today ninety years later again women start to take off their veil. Just like in the early twenties this change is not yet noticeable in the streets of the more popular neighborhoods of Cairo, but in the more affluent parts of the city it already is. In a like manner, a lot of young veiled women are following a new trend: showing some hair. Like their Iranian counterparts, wearing the headscarf this way reflects a protest against the very purpose of the veil: covering a lady’s hair.

This ‘secularizing’ trend seems to contradict with the daily news we get from the Arab world. Today all eyes are focused on the Islamic State. After the horrors of the Taliban in Afghanistan and Al Qaeda worldwide, the world is shocked to see an extreme and barbaric version of Islamist rule through a reign of terror in Syria and Iraq. The Islamic State is becoming an Arab World phenomenon as groups in Algeria, Egypt and Yemen pledged allegiance to the new Caliphate. There seem to be no limits to growing extremism in the Muslim World. Therefore, the question is, are more people becoming extremists or are extremists becoming more extreme? To answer this question we have to refer back to history. With the humiliating defeat of the Arabs in the 1967 War against Israel, most non-Islamist ideologies died. Egypt’s President Gamal Abdel Nasser’s pan-Arabism, socialism and secularism died on the battlefield, as well as the liberalism of his predecessors. The Arab world fell into an identity crisis, opening the way for the only remaining ideology: Islamism or conservative political Islam. Saudi Arabia used this momentum and its newly gained petrodollars after the oil crisis in 1973 to spread Salafism or Islam without modernity. The Muslim Brotherhood too regained ground. It was founded in 1928, four years after Turkey’s Atatürk abolished the Caliphate. Its main goal was (and continues to be) reinstalling this Caliphate. This could only be achieved by getting rid of the Western-backed Arab dictators.

The Arab revolutions of 2011 were a golden opportunity for the Islamists. Knowing that the young revolutionaries were too unorganized and idealistic, Islamists took the power. The entire Arab World looked to Egypt, where for the first time, the Muslim Brotherhood had the leverage to execute their plan and organize an Islamist society. They miserably failed.

Much more important is what is happening to the silent majority in the Arab World. And here the opposite trend slowly starts becoming clear. Fewer taxi drivers place a copy of the Koran visibly in their car. More women are taking off their veil. The young revolutionary generation is also attending prayers at the mosque less often. Most of them only denounce the political Islam preached at many mosques. Others go further and flirt with atheism. The Egyptian government doesn’t like this trend and in Alexandria even a special police taskforce has been created to arrest atheists.

As there are no credible surveys on these trends and the reasons behind it, we can for the time being, fall back on personal stories that might be representative. One such story is about a conservative family in the city of Port Said, Egypt. Two sisters in their thirties, Marwa and Heba, discovered just after the fall of President Mohamed Morsi that the books with which they grew up reading are books printed and distributed by the Muslim Brotherhood. Shocked to learn this, they started to rethink all the ideas that they formed and question the very basis of their religion. “Only after Morsi fell, I discovered that Hassan Al Banna (the founder of the Muslim Brotherhood,) wrote the foreword of the book ‘Living along the Sunni Lines’. I grew up with this book. Now I begin to doubt about everything,” Marwa said. Their veils started to become ‘trendy’, then to disappear last week.

The story of Marwa and Heba is just one of many. It demonstrates what is happening on the ground in the Arab World. The young revolutionary generation feels betrayed by the Islamists and is turning its back on them and often even religion itself. Where power and religion are one and the same, youngsters seem to reject both. This was already the case in Iran and it is happening now in the Arab World. As the current generation consists of fifty percent of the Arab population, this trend is probably the real revolution that is silently transforming the Arab World. (Emphasis mine)

Egypt has long been a leader among Arab nations, but still, I will believe it when I see it.

Another Joke

"These 4 gents go out to play golf one sunny morning. One is detained in the clubhouse, and the other three are discussing their children while walking to the first tee.”My son Kent,” says one, “has made quite a name for himself in the home-building industry. He began as a carpenter, but now owns his own design and construction firm. He’s so successful in fact, in the last year he was able to give a good friend a brand new home as a gift.”

"The second man, no(t) to be out done, tells how his son began his career as a car salesman, but now owns a multi-line dealership. “Norm’s so successful, in fact, in the last six months he gave his friend two brand new cars as a gift.”

"The third man’s son, Greg, has worked his way up through a stock brokerage, and in the last few weeks has given a good friend a large stock portfolio as a gift."

"As the fourth man arrives at the tee, another tells him that they have been discussing their progeny and asks what line his son is in.

“To tell the truth, I’m not very pleased with how my son turned out,” he replies. “For 15 years, Chico’s been a hairdresser, and I’ve just recently discovered he’s gay. However, on the bright side, he must be good at what he does because his last three boyfriends have given him a brand new house, two cars, and a big pile of stock certificates.”"

More About That European Backbone

JT Song

Joke

A guy goes over to his buddy’s house, rings the bell, but his buddy’s wife answers. “Hi is Tony home?” “No, he went to the store.” “Well, you mind if I wait?” “No, come in.” They sit down and the friend says “You know, Nora, you have the greatest breasts I have ever seen.

I’d give you a hundred bucks if I could just see one.” Nora thinks about this for a second and figures what the hell, It’s worth one hundred bucks. She opens her robe and shows one. He promptly thanks her and throws 100 bucks on the table. They sit there a while longer and Chris says “They are so beautiful. I must see the both of them. I’ll give you another 100 bucks if I could just see the both of them together.”

Nora thinks about this and says what the hell, opens her robe and gives Chris a nice long look. She feels bad for him, so she pushes her breasts into his face for a moment and she let’s him have a few squeezes. Chris thanks her and throws another 100 bucks on the table then says he can’t wait any longer for Tony and he leaves. A while later Tony arrives home and his wife says “You know your weird friend Chris came over.” Tony thinks about this for a second and asks, “Well, … did he drop off the 200 bucks he owes me?”

Oceans

Study Finds Earth’s Ocean Abyss Has Not Warmed
"The cold waters of Earth’s deep ocean have not warmed measurably since 2005, according to a new NASA study, leaving unsolved the mystery of why global warming appears to have slowed in recent years."
[---]
"direct ocean temperature data from 2005 to 2013 and found the ocean abyss below 1.24 miles (1,995 meters) has not warmed measurably."
[---]
"In the 21st century, greenhouse gases have continued to accumulate in the atmosphere, just as they did in the 20th century, but global average surface air temperatures have stopped rising in tandem with the gases. The temperature of the top half of the world's oceans -- above the 1.24-mile mark -- is still climbing, but not fast enough to account for the stalled air temperatures. Many processes on land, air and sea have been invoked to explain what is happening to the "missing" heat. One of the most prominent ideas is that the bottom half of the ocean is taking up the slack, but supporting evidence is slim."
[---]
"The combination of satellite and direct temperature data gives us a glimpse of how much sea level rise is due to deep warming. The answer is -- not much."
[---]
"From the total amount of sea level rise, they subtracted the amount of rise from the expansion in the upper ocean, and the amount of rise that came from added meltwater. The remainder represented the amount of sea level rise caused by warming in the deep ocean.

The remainder was essentially zero. Deep ocean warming contributed virtually nothing to sea level rise during this period."
Are we surprised?

Friends of Science Guerrilla Billboard Marketing Campaign in Canada Stirs up Freedom of Speech Controversy on Climate Change and Global Warming
"Despite Canada’s Charter Right of freedom of speech, and hundreds of years of scientific evidence that the sun is the main direct and indirect driver of climate change, the current Friends of Science billboard campaign has been met with calls to censor the group. (Emphasis mine) Friends of Science point out that the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has downplayed the evidence that global warming stopped naturally more than 16 years ago in the recent synthesis report, despite a rise in carbon dioxide, demonstrating that carbon dioxide is not the ‘knob’ on global temperature variability."
[---]
"“Clearly the drop in solar irradiance is a factor. Why would it be immoral or unethical to make sure the public knows that expensive carbon reduction schemes do nothing for the climate?”

“Clean Energy Canada has a mandate to push renewable power. The main rationale for so-called renewables like wind and solar, is the alleged threat of human-caused global warming,” he says. “So, is that why they want to censor us?”"
[---]
"Twitter burst into a stream of invective, primarily calling Friends of Science ‘deniers.’

In a tweet Friends of Science responded saying “We do not deny and we do not comply. We think for ourselves and rely on scientific evidence, not models."
[---]

Are We Ever Grateful!

Why females live longer than males

The results could help researchers understand the mechanisms involved in ageing.

"We found dramatic differences in the effects of sexual and natural selection on male and female flies. These results could help explain the sex differences in lifespan seen in many species, including humans, and the diverse patterns of ageing we observe in nature," said lead researcher professor David Hosken.

The team used populations of the fly Drosophila simulans that had evolved under different selection regimes.

The flies were then subjected to elevated and relaxed conditions of sexual and natural selection.

To elevate sexual selection, groups of males were housed with single females.

A stressful temperature was used to elevate natural selection.

The study shows that mate competition (sexual selection), along with survival (natural selection), is tougher on males than it is on females, reducing their lifespan by about a third.

There you go. Were nothing but flies. Remember that the next time you reach for the fly swatter.

Scientist Confesses: "Global Warming a $22 Billion Scam"

Fer Christ sake, tell us something we do not know, for a change.

==========Original Starts Here==========
Hope it is correct:

Shorter, warmer winter than last year, outlook says
Following last year’s brutal winter, dubbed the “polar vortex” in some parts of the country, Canadians can expect a slightly warmer winter season this year.

Environment Canada recently released its “winter outlook” – a general forecast for the next three months. The department’s Senior Climatologist David Phillips discussed the report with CTV’s Canada AM Monday.

“Not as long and as brutal a winter as we had last year … for all Canadians,” said Phillips. “We won’t have to be migrating and hibernating like we did last year.”
